IRAN (ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF) (IR)
Geographical information:
Capital - Tehran (THR).
1. Passport: Required, except
for: holder of documents issued to stateless persons, provided they can prove
their former Iranian nationality.
Validity: All alien non-residents should hold passports which are valid
at least 6 months after period of intended stay.
Admission and transit restrictions: The Governments of Iran refuses
admission and transit to:
1 . nationals of Israel;
2. holder of passports containing:
a. a visa for Israel (either valid or expired);
or
b. any data that passenger has been to Israel; or
c. indication of any connection with the State of Israel;
3. women not wearing Islamic head cover, scarf, long
sleeves or stockings;
4. passengers registered in other personīs passport if not
accompanied by holder of that passport.
Crew: Passport, Crew Identification Card, General Declaration (see
Terms & Definitions) and a letter from the station manager, containing crew
namelist, stamp and a signature required. Female crew members have to
adhere to Islamic clothing-code. Crews with an Israeli stamps in their
documents will be refused entry. Crew should wear uniform (also applicable
to Dead Heading Crew).
Military: same regulations as for passengers apply.
Additional information:
1. All passengers of Iranian nationality must arrive in
Iran with:
a. Iranian passports; or
b. Iranian Laissez-Passer (for those holding foreign
passports);
2. A passport containing the name(s) of passengers
accompanying the holder must also contain passport photos of these persons when
they are two years old or older. Moreover, the number of the accompanying
infant(s) should be mentioned on the exit permit page.
Minors: Nationality of all children born in Iran is considered Iranian
if:
1. one of the parants id either national of Iran or born in
Iran;
2. Iranian authorities have not been notified of the
childīs foreign nationality prior to his 18th year.
2. Visa: Warning:
Non-compliance with entry/transit regulations will result in fines of USD 500. -
and passenger will be deported at carrierīs expense.
Visa: required (21), except for:
1. nationals of Iran;
2. holders of diplomatic and service passports, holding
proof that they are accredited to Iran;
3. nationals of the following countries (22 23) for a stay
not exceeding 3 months: FYROM (Former Yugoslav Rep. of Macedonia) and
Turkey;
4. nationals of: Afghanistan, Hungary, Korea Rep.,
Pakistan, Portugal and Switzerland holding a diplomatic passports provided
holding invitation issued by authorities;
6. nationals of Croatia, Greece, Serbia & Montenegro,
Spain, Sudan, Sweden and Venezuela holding diplomatic or service passports;
7. holders of a Re-entry Permit and compulsory Working
Permit issued by Iran (22);
8. thise holding a Reidence Permit, provided they are
nationals mentioned in 2. "Visa" 3. and 4.;
9. nationals of Japan holding diplomatic or official
passports;
10. nationals of: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Colombia,
Georgia, Kazakhstan, Russian Fed., Senegal, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan holding
diplomatic or service passports for a stay of max. 1 month;
11. nationals of Malaysia and Singapore can obtain a visa
on arrival, free of charge for a max. stay of 2 weeks;

According
to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, nationals of foreign countries who wish ti visit Iran while transiting Iran can apply for a one-week transit visa upon arrival at Tehran int 1 Airports (Mehrabad, IKIA) and also at Shiraz, Tabriz, Isfahan and Mashhad int 1 Airports. In this regard, issuance of
07-day transit visa is left at the discretion of the immigration offices stationed at the said int 1 Airports. It is also required that the applicants have enough funds, confirmed onward ticket and Visa for the next onward destination.
13. those (24) continuing their journey by same or first
connectiing aircraft within 12 hours and without leaving airport (no overnight
facilities at airports of Abadan and Tehran). They must hold tickets with
confirmed onward reservations and documents to a destination outside Iran.
Merchant Seamen: travelling on duty, must hold Seamen Book together
with passport and hold Letter og Guarantee of shipping campany (see Terms and
Definitions).
1. If arriving by air in order to board ship: visa
not required: -if nationality of the seamen is mentioned in 2. "Visa"1.
and 3.; -for any other nationality, provided the seamen is met at the
airport by shipping agent. The shipping company is responsible for
transportation within 72 hours to the ship. It is recommended to send a
prior telex information to the station manager of the transporting airline;
2. If arriving by ship in order to board aircraft:
visa not required: -if nationality of the seamen is mentioned in 2.
"Visa"1. and 3.; -for any other nationality, provided procedure is
completely arranged by shipping agent and transportation the the airport is
within 72 hours;
3. If in direct transit to abroad: visa not required:
-if nationality of the seamen is mentioned in 2. "Visa"1. and 3.; -for
those (24) continuing by same/first connectiong aircraft to a third country
within 12 hours provided holding ticket with confirmed onward reservation and
documents required for next destination. Leaving the airport is not
allowed (no overnight facilities at the Abadan and Tehran Airports). -for
those (24 25) continuing their journey within 48 hours can obtain a tranist visa
on arrival against a fee of USD 40.-. Passenger must hold a valid
passport, a confirmed onward ticket and all documents required for next
destiination. Passenger will be allowed to leave the airport.
Crew: Visa not required.
Duration of stay is based on flight information papers.
Military: same regulations as for passenger apply.
Issue:
1. Prior to arrival: by one of the following
consulates (21) of Iran abroad:
Afghanistan (Kabul), Argentina (Buenos Aires), Australia
(Canberra), Austria (Vienna), Azerbaijan (Baku), Belgium (Brussels), Brazil (Rio
de Janeiro), Canada (Ottawa), China (Peopleīs Rep.) (Beijing and Shanghai),
Czech Rep. (Prague), Denmark (Copenhagen), Egypt (Cairo), France(Paris), Germany
(Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg, Munich), Greece (Athens), Indonesia (Jakarta), India
(Delhi, Mumbai), Italy (Milan, Rome), Japan (Tokyo), Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek),
Lebanon (Beirut), Netherlands (The Hague), Pakistan (Karachi, Quetta), Poland
(Warsaw), Russian Fed. (Moscow), Serbia & Montenegro (Belgrade), Spain (Madrid),
Sweden (Stockholm), Switzerland (Berne, Geneva), Syria (Damascus), Tunisia
(Tunis), Turkey (Ankara, Istanbul, Trabzon), Turkmenistan (Ashgabat), United
Kingdom (London), U.S.A. (New York, San Francisci, Washington D.C.), Uzbekistan
(Tashkent), and Yemen Rep. (Sanaá).
2 On arrival: only possible for max. 72
hours, if passengers has been introduced by means of letter from valid
organization or government at least prior to arrival. Fee: USD 30.-.
Re-entry permit: Required for returning alien residents and
to be stamped by Iranian consulates abroad in their passports. A small
printed form (very often stapled in the passport) - residence permit - is only
sufficient for re-entry of nationals mentioned under 2. "Visa"3. As these
nationals are free from visa for a stay not exceeding 3 months according to
their nationality even missing residence permits are no problem for passengers
of these nationalities, who can be accepted on a one way ticket if they declare
themselves returning alien residents.
Exit permit: required for:
1. non-nationals of Iran whose entry visa -
issued abroad - is not provided with a combined entry/exit permit. They
must obtain an exit permit from the Foreigners Service of the Ministry of
Interior. Foreigners must have registered within 48 hours after entry
Iran.
2. nationals of Iran, who must obtain passport
endorsed with exit permit from the police department. There are 3 tyes of
exit permits:
a. Green exit stamp: valid as long as
passport validity;
b. Blue exit stamp: valid for the period
mentioned;
c. Red exit stamp: valid for one exit only.
Notes:
(21) Reporters, photographers and cameramen of any
nationality other than Iranian should need a visa. To be obtained from the
representation of Iran either in the country of residence belongs..
(22) If passengers are travelling to Iran to take up
employment in Iran, including travel to Iran as an artist, an entry visa related
to the working permit must be stamped in their passport. Same entry permit
will be stamped in passport of each family member holding own passport.
Children are mentioned in their motherīs permit.
(23) Nationals mentioned in 2, "Visa"3. can be accepted on
one-way tickets, if they declare themselves returning alien residents.
(24) Not applicable to nationals of Israel.
(25) Not applicable to holder of passports issued in Hong
Kong (SAR China).
3. Health: No vaccinations are required to
enter Iran (Islamic Republic of) from any country.
Recommended:
Malaria prophylaxis. Limited malaria risk -exclusive in the
benign (P.vivax) form - exists in some areas north of the Zagror mountains and
in western and southwestern regions during the summer months. Malaria risk
in the malignant (P. falciparum) form exists from March to November in rural
areas in the provinces of Sistan-Baluchestan and Hormozgan and Kerman (tropical
part). Chloroguine and sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine-resistant P. falciparum
reported (see Terms & Definitions). Recommended prophylaxis: CHL in
P. vivax areas; C+P in P. falciparum areas.
4. Tax:
a. Airport tax is levied on all passenger leaving
Iran on international flights: Fee: IRR 70,000.-
Place of payment: at ticket issuance, or, if failed to be
collected, at any branch of the Meli bank, the national bank of Iran. The
Meli bank at Tehran is open 24 hours a day.
b. Exit tax is levied in nationals of Iran
leaving Iran on iternationals flights. Fee:
-IRR 100,000.-for the first exit in an Iranian calender year;
-IRR 150,000.-for any extra number of number of exits during the
same calendar year.
c. Tourism tax is levied on nationals of Iran
leaving Iran on international flights. Fee:
-IRR 30,000.- for each passport, irrespective of number of
passengers included on the passport.
Place of payment: upon departure and prior immigration check.
5. Customs:
Import: free import
1. a reasonable quantity of cigarettes;
2. a reasonable quantity of perfume for personal
use;
3. gifts of which the applicable import duty/tax
does not exceed USD 80.-.
Warning: Trafficking or possession of illegal drugs is a
serious offence with very severe punishments.
Prohibited:
1. alcoholic beverages;
2. berries, fruit, plants or cuttings, rhizomes,
roots, seeds or tubers,
4. soil,
5. living (or collections): bacteria, fungi,
insects, nematodes or viruses;
6. all kinds of live birds, animal and their
products (especially from Asian countries);
7. old books or magazines.
Warning: passengers must report to the Plant Quarantine
officials if carrying any item listed in 2. through 6.
Additional information: Iran is member of the CITES (see
Terms & Definitions).
Crew: Same regulations as for passengers apply.
Pets: birds, cats and dogs must be accompanied by a veterinarian
health and rabies inoculation certificate, issued by Consul in country of
origin. Pets may enter as passengerīs checked baggage, in the cabin or as
cargo.
Export: free export
1. Reasonable quantities of cigarettes;
2. Other items: up to a reasonable value.
Baggage clearance: baggage is cleared at the first airport of
entry in Iran. No transit facilities exist in Iran.
6. Currency:
Import: allowed.
Local currency (Iran Rial-IRR): up to IRR 500,000.-. Amounts exceeding IRR
500,000.-must be deposited at Bank Melli or Bank Sepah at the airport.
foreign currencies: Unlimited. The foreign currency has to de declared upon
arrival on a special form. Also in case of sale or transfer to other
passengers(provided holding a passport).
Export:Allowed.
Residents:
Local currency (Iran Rial-IRR): up to IRR 500,00.-.larger amounts only after
authorization from the Central Bank;
Foreign currencis: reasonable amounts up to USD 5,000.-for the expenses
abroad.
NON-RESIDENTS:
Local currency: up to IRR 500,000.-. Larger amount shown on and after
presentation of the deposit receipt obtained on arrival.
Foreign currencies: up to the amount declared on arrivle or obtained via Bank
Meli. Bank receipt and Bank stamp in passport must be shown on departure to
prove the balance of the amount declared on arrival.
Additional information:
All departing passengers holding tickets issued/reissued in Iran, other than
by Iranair, must hold a Currency/Departure form, obtainable from the Airlineīs
town office.
